Priscilla Cummings grew up on a dairy farm in western Massachusetts and received a BA in English from the University of New Hampshire. As a reporter for twelve years, Cummings covered a variety of topics and has been awarded several journalism awards, including the UPIs Journalist of the Year for Virginia in 1980. She won Metro-Washington Association for Childhood Education Internationals literary award for her efforts to promote literacy and help young readers develop an awareness and a sense of responsibility for the Chesapeake Bay.
